Edge Drop Thriller Late at Wichita 38-39

Wichita, KS - The Bloomington Edge, presented by Heller Stores, fell 38-39 at the Wichita Wild Saturday night. They are now 9-4 on the year. The Wild clinch a playoff spot with the win. Dusty Burk completed 23 of 33 passes and threw for 220 yards with 5 touchdowns.

He broke his own single season TD record with the Edge and currently has 51. Andre Raymond needed 41 yards to break Bernard Payton's single-season team rushing record (435 yards in 2010). After rushing 47 yards in the game he is now holds that record. John Cooper led receivers with 83 yards and caught 2 touchdown passes. The Edge have never won at Hartman Arena.

Wichita came out with a quick touchdown pass on their opening drive. After Bloomington's Pete Christofilakos missed a 48 yard field goal, the Wild hit two consecutive field goals of their own. The Edge got things back under control when Dusry Burk threw a touchdown pass to Daron Clark late in the opening quarter. The quarter would end with Wichita up 13-7.

The 2nd quarter highlighted defense on both sides. The Edge intercepted the Wild early in the quarter. Then Andre Raymond was stood up by the Wichita defense on 4th and goal. The Edge got a second interception a short time later. With under 2:00 to go in the half, Dusty Burk hit Charles Dowdell for a touchdown to give the Edge the lead.

Quince Holman came up with a big sack for the Edge on 4th and 1 with only 0:22 left in the half. That play gave the Edge one more chance in the half and Burk came up with a touchdown pass to John Cooper. The Wild kicked a 37 yard field goal with a second remaining. The Edge led 21-16 at halftime.

The Edge started the 3rd quarter with another touchdown pass. Dusty Burk hit Charles Dowdell with a pass to extend the lead. With the touchdown pass, Burk tied his own team record for touchdown passes in a season. He had 50 in 2008. After Wichita missed a field goal they intercepted Dusty Burk and ran it back for a touchdown. The Edge kicked a field goal and led 31-23 heading to the 4th quarter.

To start the 4th quarter the Wild were able to get a rushing touchdown through the Edge defense to make it a one point game. After intercepting Dusty Burk, the Wild kicked a 46 yard field goal to take the lead. The Edge came right back with another passing touchdown to John Cooper. The touchdown sets a new team single season record for passing touchdowns for Burk. The Wild answered by throwing a touchdown pass with only 0:41 left in the game. A two-point attempt was failed, leaving it a one point game. Pete Christofilakos missed a 42 yard field goal attempt that would have won the game for the Edge.

The Edge will play their final regular season game next week on Friday June 8 against the Cedar Rapids Titans in Bloomington. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but it was moved to Friday. The Edge are 1-0 against the Titans this year.
