Bloomington, IL - The Bloomington Edge, presented by Heller Stores, defeated the Chicago Slaughter 55-44 Saturday night at home to move to 2-1 on the season. Dusty Burk had 20 completions on 29 attempts. He threw for 172 yards, had 3 touchdown passes, and scored two rushing touchdowns. Andre Raymond rushed for 7 yards on 7 attempts and scored a touchdown. Brandon Walker-Roby led the Edge with 6 receptions for 53 yards and had a touchdown.
Both teams got off to a hot start in the opening quarter. There were seven combined scores in the quarter. The Edge had four of them. Andre Raymond rushed for a touchdown while Charles Dowdell and John Cooper both had receiving touchdowns. Bloomington led 24-20 at the end of the 1st.
Chicago opened the 2nd quarter with a rushing touchdown but the Edge came back with three straight scores of their own. Pete Christofilakos kicked a 30 yard field goal and then Dusty Burk got a touchdown on a 1 yard quarterback keeper. After the Edge blocked a Chicago field goal Jeff Sobol recovered in the end zone for a touchdown. James Temple ended the half by intercepting a pass in his own end zone and the Edge led 40-26.
Things slowed way down in the 3rd. The Edge came out with a receiving touchdown by Brandon Walker-Roby after the drive was set up by a James Temple interception. It was the only score of the quarter. Chicago took a seven minute drive to the Edge 1 yard line but turned the ball over on downs. Bloomington led 46-26 entering the final quarter of play.
The 4th quarter was not as slow as the 3rd but there was still less offense than earlier. The Slaughter had a rushing touchdown early in the quarter but the Edge responded with a 24 yard field goal. Chicago added another two touchdowns but the Edge were able to hold the lead as Dusty Burk scored his second rushing touchdown of the game.
