
Edge clinch playoff spot, beat Chicago 62-43

Bloomington, IL - The Bloomington Edge, presented by Heller Stores, clinched their sixth playoff spot in as many years with their 62-43 victory over the Chicago Slaughter Friday night in Bloomington. The Edge move to 9-3 and are in second in the United Conference. Dusty Burk completed 22 of 30 passes, throwing for 268 yards with 7 touchdowns. Ricardo Lenhart (86 receiving yards), John Cooper (71 yards), and Charles Dowdell (49 yards) all had 2 touchdown receptions. Andre Raymond rushed for 85 yards. Jonas Randolph rushed for 8 yards with a touchdown. Defensive lineman Antonio Ficklin rushed for a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass.
Chicago came out firing and got the first score of the game. The Slaughter passed for a touchdown but on the next drive the Edge got it back. Dusty Burk threw a touchdown pass to Antonio "Hollywood" Ficklin to tie the game. Ficklin is a defensive lineman but will line up on offense at fullback from time to time. Chicago missed a field goal and the game was tied 7-7 after the 1st quarter.
Bloomington started the 2nd quarter with a touchdown on the first play of the quarter. Dusty Burk hit Charles Dowdell in the endzone to give the Edge a lead. On the next drive Chicago quarterback Juice Williams ran the ball for a touchdown. The extra point was blocked. The Edge responded with another touchdown drive. Antonio Ficklin scored his second touchdown of the game, this time running the ball. The Slaughter drove deep into Edge territory but on 4th and goal Michael McGee intercepted a pass in the endzone. On the resulting drive Andre Raymond had a 32 yard rush that was followed by a Ricardo Lenhart touchdown reception. James Temple caught his 11th interception but the ball was fumbled on an attempted lateral on the same play. Chicago ran the ball for a touchdown on the next play. Ricardo Lenhart made a spectacular catch, tipping the ball to himself to set up a touchdown. Lenhart caught the touchdown pass as well. The Edge led 35-20 at halftime.
The Edge started the 3rd with a Dusty Burk touchdown pass to John Cooper. Chicago responded with a 42 yard field goal. After an interception the Slaughter scored on another quarterback keeper touchdown by Juice Williams. On the next drive Dusty Burk threw an interception that resulted in a touchdown. The Edge led 41-37 at the end of the 3rd quarter.
On the first play of the 4th quarter Dusty Burk threw a touchdown pass to John Cooper. The Edge held the Slaughter to a field goal attempt after a great goal line stand and Chicago missed the field goal. The Edge went down the field and Charles Dowdell caught a touchdown pass to extend the lead. Jonas Randolph rushed for a touchdown to seal the win for the Edge. Chicago rushed for another touchdown but it did not make a difference.
The Edge will play their final road game of the regular season on Saturday June 2. The team will travel to Wichita to play the Wild.
