
Edenton Snaps Forest City Streak

Edenton, NC- Alex Close and T.J. Sutton both hit their first home runs of the season, but the Owls lost to the Steamers 6-4 on Tuesday night. Jason Kanzler snapped a 4-4 tie in the bottom of the 8th inning with a two-run triple off Jake Padgett.
Close cracked his first home run of the year to centerfield leading off the top of the 2nd inning to tie the game at one. Forest City would add another run in the 2nd on an RBI single by Justin Bryan to take the 2-1 lead. Sutton's round-tripper came in the 3rd inning to make it 3-1 Owls. Forest City worked across an unearned run in the 4th to grab a 4-1 lead.
The Steamers rallied back with three runs in the bottom of the 5th inning. Kanzler blasted a solo home run and Blaise Fernandez ripped a two-run double off starter Ryan Hander to tie the game. It stayed at 4-4 until the 8th when Carson Herndon allowed three walks to start the inning. One runner was caught stealing, but Herndon exited the game with runners on first and second, setting the stage for Kanzler's winning hit off Padgett. Forest City missed an opportunity to clinch the first half championship in the Western Division, but will have another tomorrow.
The Owls three-game road trip wraps up tomorrow with a special noon game in Gastonia. Forest City is 5-0 this season against the Grizzlies. The Forest City Owls are a proud member of the Coastal Plain League, the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league.
