FC Edmonton News Release
Cary, North Carolina (June 21, 2012) - The Eddies embark on the second game of a two-game stretch on the road today and will take on the Carolina RailHawks on Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park (K.O. 5 p.m. MDT).
The squad finds themselves out of a playoff spot in seventh with 11 points but they do have a game in hand on the three teams above them, including the RailHawks who the Eddies could tie on points with a win.
"We struggled against the RailHawks last season but we're a different team this year and so are they," said FCE captain Chris Kooy. "Road points are hard to come by so we'll have to be on top of our game on Saturday."
The last time the two sides faced each other, local product Shaun Saiko netted a hat trick which in turn earned the midfielder/striker Player of the Week honours and eventually Player of the Month honours for May.
The May 6 match marked the first time FC Edmonton has won the full three points off the North Carolina side and the Eddies hope to continue that success against the RailHawks on Saturday.
The team will return home after the match to begin preparing for a Canada Day clash against the Puerto Rico Islanders. An FC Edmonton victory over the RailHawks combined with a Puerto Rico loss against the Atlanta Silverbacks would see the Eddies just six points back of the second place Islanders.
