Eddies Host Strikers in Spring Season Finale at Clarke Field
June 11, 2016 - North American Soccer League (NASL)
FC Edmonton News Release
EDMONTON, AB - FC Edmonton (4W-2D-3L) cap off their 10-game, North American Soccer League (NASL) Spring Season with a Sunday match against Fort Lauderdale Strikers (4W-3D-2L), June 12, 2:00 p.m. MT at Clarke Field. The home side will be looking to finish strong and keep pace in an ultra-competitive, league table.
MATCH NOTES / STANDINGS
The Strikers are riding a six-game, undefeated streak across all competitions heading into Sunday's clash at Clarke Field, registering four wins during that period of time. The team's recent run of form has seen them push up the league table into fourth position overall with 15 points in nine matches played. Maicon Santos has led the team on offence in 2016 with four goals, while the goalkeeper tandem of Diego Restrepo and Bruno have split duties in goal with five and four games played, respectively.
The Eddies are coming off a stellar month of May that finished with a disappointing 1-0 defeat to expansion side Miami FC. Currently occupying the sixth spot in the league table, the Eddies could finish as high as second heading into the nearly month-long break. The team has seen their goal production spread throughout the lineup, with five different players registering at least a goal. The team's scoring has been offset by a league-best defensive unit that has held opponents to just six goals against through nine matches.
Sunday marks the final match of the Spring Season for both clubs. With just four points separating second place from eighth place, a victory for either team would have major implications on standings heading into the Fall Season. Last season, both teams split the spoils through three matches, with each side collecting a win as well as a draw.
"It will be another difficult game for us," FC Edmonton head coach Colin Miller explained. "We will do all we can to get the three points on Sunday. It has been the best Spring Season that the Eddies have had in some time, but we don't want to just accept that. We want to finish as high as we possibly can in the standings. It is a good game to look forward to, they have some real quality players on their team and we will have a very attack-minded lineup to go for the three points, as usual."
FC Edmonton returns to Clarke Field for their Spring Season finale versus Fort Lauderdale Strikers, June 12 at 2:00 p.m. MT. The match will broadcast live on City TV and TSN 1260 radio in Edmonton, as well as ESPN 3 in the United States.
