
ECHL Secures Partnership With SP Apparel

PRINCETON, N.J. Â The East Coast Hockey League announced on Thursday that it has reached a two-year marketing and licensing agreement with SP Apparel. SP Apparel will produce authentic and replica jerseys for several ECHL teams and retains exclusive rights for the production of game jerseys for the 2003 Compuware/ECHL All-Star Game and the 2004 ECHL All-Star Game.
The marketing package provides SP Apparel with in-arena signage, promotional materials, and exposure on the official web site of the ECHL.
"Phil Chiarella, Serge Berard, and their organization have developed a reputation for consistently high standards in regards to quality merchandise and customer service," said Richard W. Adams, President/CEO of the ECHL. "We welcome SP Apparel to our roster of national licensees."
In addition to production of the all-star game jerseys, SP Apparel will produce jerseys for the Columbus Cottonmouths, the Dayton Bombers, the Florida Everblades, the Johnstown Chiefs, the New Orleans Brass, the Pensacola Ice Pilots, the Peoria Rivermen, the Trenton Titans, and the Wheeling Nailers.

Formed in 1988-89 with five teams in three states, the ECHL enters its 15th Anniversary season with 28 teams in 14 states, including its newest market in Lexington, Kentucky. The ECHL will welcome two new markets in 2003-04 with the addition of Gwinnett County, Georgia and Southeast (Beaumont) Texas. The ECHL has seen 191 players advance to the NHL along with coaches, officials and front office personnel. There were 82 former ECHL players that played in the NHL in 2001-02 and 25 of the 30 NHL teams developed players with ECHL affiliates.
