April 22, 2008 - Eastern Professional Hockey League (EPHL)
Copper City Chiefs News Release

A new professional hockey franchise to play in the newly formed Eastern Professional Hockey League will be formally announced Wednesday, April 23, at 2:00 PM at the Kennedy Arena. The team will play 25 home games as part of the 2008-09 Eastern Pro League season.

Those in attendance at the announcement will include Rome Parks and Recreation Director Rich Miller, EPHL league commissioner Jim Riggs, league president Tim Kolpien, and Rome franchise owner Wayne Primo of Prospect. Primo is a local real estate executive who owned the Copper City Chiefs of the now-defunct NEHL.

"This will be a quality league," commented Primo in anticipation of the announcement. "The players will be full-time professionals." The EPHL expects to feed players to the higher-level ECHL. Primo added that the renovations now going on at Kennedy Arena made it possible for an EPHL team to play there.

Rome becomes the third formally announced team after Danbury , Conn. , and West Orange , N.J. Three more teams from northeastern states will be formally announced in May.

The Rome team will be holding a "Name the Team" contest. Fans can suggest potential names through the league's website, www.EPHL.com. Prizes, prizes, including a pair of season tickets and an authentic team jersey, will be given to entries chosen at random.

The public is welcome to attend the announcement.
