Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (October 12, 2011) - East Moline resident Zach Honert will have the chance to suit up and play for the Quad City Mallards this Saturday courtesy of Dwyer & Michaels and 97X.
Honert, 22, seized the opportunity presented by Dwyer & Michaels last week for one Quad Citian to play in the Flock's preseason game Saturday at 4:05 p.m. against Evansville at the i wireless Center. After first surviving an open tryout held Sunday at the i wireless Center, Honert was then informed this morning live on the Dwyer & Michaels Show by Mallards coach and general manager David Bell that he had been chosen from among five finalists to suit up for the Flock.
"This is obviously an incredible opportunity and it should be a lot of fun," said Honert. "Having grown up watching the Mallards, I can't thank Dwyer & Michaels and Coach Bell enough for a once in a lifetime experience."
Honert, a 5' 11", 180-pound defenseman, will step into the spotlight when the Flock opens the Ice Breaker- a three-game, two-day preseason event also featuring the Missouri Mavericks and Bloomington Blaze- Saturday afternoon against the IceMen.
"Zach's effort and performance really jumped out to me at the tryout," said Bell. "He has certainly earned this chance and I was glad we were able to get together with Dwyer & Michaels to make a unique opportunity like this possible for Zach and everyone who tried out."
Dwyer & Michaels are heard weekday mornings from 5:30 to 10:00 a.m. on 97X in the Quad Cities and online at 2dorks.com.
The Mallards' match-up with Evansville is the first of back-to-back games at the i wireless Center Saturday afternoon and evening. A battle between Bloomington and Missouri at 7:05 p.m. will round out the twin bill. The Mallards will close out the Ice Breaker by tussling with the Mavericks Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
The Mallards will open their second CHL regular season on home ice on Saturday night, October 22 at 7:05 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush. The Flock's 2011-12 schedule features 33 home games, including 25 weekend dates. 2011-12 season tickets are now on sale- season ticket holders receive significant savings and a host of exclusive benefits. Regular season single game tickets are also now on sale. Fans can contact the Mallards at (309) 277-1364 or tickets@myqcmallards.com for more information about both season and single game tickets.
Single game tickets are also available at the i wireless Center box office, at Ticketmaster outlets, through www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free. The box office is open weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and on game days other than Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the second period. On Sundays on which the Mallards play at home the ticket office will be open from 1:00 p.m. until the start of the second period.
