
Earthquakes Ready for 2008 MLS Super Draft

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San Jose Earthquakes are ready to take part on the 2008 MLS Super Draft on Friday January 18th, 2008 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland. The Earthquakes made a major trade on Tuesday January 15th acquiring defender Nick Garcia from the Kansas City Wizards in exchange for the first overall pick in the 2008 MLS Super Draft.
The Earthquakes will also have the 15th overall (first pick of the second round) selection during the 2008 MLS Super Draft. The Super Draft consists of four rounds with 14 selections each round and a total of 56 selections.
The MLS Super Draft features the finest collegiate and youth soccer prospects in the United States. The majority of draft prospects are graduating college seniors from NCAA schools. Others come from Generation adidas, a joint program between MLS and adidas that is dedicated to developing exceptional domestic talent in a professional environment. Each year, a handful of top domestic underclassmen and youth national team soccer players are signed to the league and placed in the Super Draft through this program.
The event begins at 2 p.m. ET and will be carried live by ESPN2 and MLSnet.com. The first hour of the Super Draft will be televised live on ESPN2. The remainder of the draft will be streamed live on MLSnet.com, the league's official web site.
The San Jose Earthquakes are a Major League Soccer expansion franchise and will begin playing in April of 2008. Season tickets for the 2008 Earthquakes season are on sale and can be purchased by calling 1-877-QUAKE 01 or online at sjearthquakes.com.
