
Early Offense Lifts Cardinals Past Astros

Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros (25-23) fell to the Johnson City Cardinals (27-21) on Thursday night at Pioneer Park, 14-3. The Cardinals scored 10 runs over the first two innings to carry them the rest of the night.
Johnson City scored six runs on five hits in the first inning, but the Astros cut into the Cardinals early lead in the bottom of the first on a Raymond Henderson RBI ground out. However, the Cardinals came right back with a four-run second inning on three hits to take a 10-1 lead.
The Cardinals would extend their lead by three more runs over the fifth and sixth innings on a wild pitch and a Joshua Lopez two-run homer and later added one final score on a DeAndre Asbury-Heath RBI double in the ninth. Meanwhile, the Astros grinded out a run apiece in the seventh and eighth innings on a Vicente Sanchez RBI ground out and a RBI double by Henderson but were unable to climb any closer.
Julio Mateo (1-2) picked up the win for the Cardinals after pitching two scoreless innings in relief.
The Astros will take on the Cardinals in the final game of the series on Friday at 7:00pm. Forrest Whitley, the Astros' 2016 first round selection, will be making his first start for Greeneville against the Cardinals' Ian Oxnevad.
