Fresno FC News Release

HERRIMAN, UTAH - Fresno failed to come up with a point on the road in Week 9 of the USL regular season, falling 1-0 at Real Monarchs on Saturday afternoon at Zions Bank Stadium.

Defender Maikel Chang put the home team in front on a first-time finish that beat goalkeeper Kyle Reynish near post. Kalen Ryden sailed a long ball to Sebastian Velasquez, who then found Chang on the run on the right side of the box.

The elements hindered the Foxes, with both the 5,000-foot altitude and turf field, slowing down the team for most of the match. Real Monarchs took advantage, with their best opportunities to double their lead at just after the 62nd minute when Josh Heard's shot hit the post and with 10 minutes remaining when Velasquez's free kick deflected off the crossbar.

Fresno's best chance came right at the start of the second half when Renato Bustamante sent in a low cross that just missed Agustin Cazarez on the diving header. As time went on, the Foxes managed to find breaks through the Real Monarchs' defense, including at the 56th minute when Jemal Johnson crossed in a ball to Bustamante, who just failed to connect on the play.

The Foxes, however, finished with just four total shots, which only one of made it on target, and extended its winless streak to seven games that includes two losses in three games.

The Foxes now take a short hiatus from league action to compete in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup next week. The Foxes will host Orange County Football Club in the second round on Wednesday, May 16 at Lamonica Stadium. Tickets are on sale now.

Fresno FC returns to USL play on Saturday, May 26 at Orange County SC. That match will kickoff at 7 p.m.
