Rochester Rhinos News Release
ROCHESTER, NY - Rochester Rhinos defender Danny Earls was selected to the All-League Team on Monday afternoon, September 3rd, after a vote of the 13 management teams in USL PRO. The 24 year-old Earls was selected as the Rochester Rhinos Most Valuable Player through a vote of his teammates and club management last month.
"It's a great honor to be recognized by the rest of the coaches in the league." Earls said. "It was an up and down year for us at times, and it's nice to end it off with an honor that I can share with the club and the great fans that we have here in the City of Rochester."
Earls started in 24 matches for the Rhinos in 2013. He joined midfielders Lance Rozeboom and Tyler Rosenlund as one of only three Rhinos to log over 2,000 minutes this season. Earls scored three goals and added one assist for seven points as an overlapping left back. His three goals include the game-tying goal against Antigua Barracuda FC in Sahlen's Stadium on Friday, June 21st, and the game-winning goal against the Barracuda in Sahlen's Stadium on Sunday, July 28th.
Earls joined the Rochester Rhinos as a 19 year-old in 2008 after spending his youth career in the Aston Villa (English Premier League) Academy. He played under the tutelage of head coach Darren Tilley in 2008 and 2009, before moving to Major League Soccer with the Colorado Rapids.
Earls best season in Colorado was in 2010 when he played in 18 matches and made 15 starts for the 2010 MLS Cup Champions. Earls completed his two-year MLS career with 1,637 minutes played in 22 matches.
Earls re-joined the Rochester Rhinos in 2012. He has played in 89 matches, made 85 starts, and logged 7,195 minutes in his four year career with the club. He has six goals and eight assists for 20 career points. Earls is 20 matches played, 19 starts, and 1,804 minutes played from joining the Rochester Rhinos career top ten lists in those three categories - a feat that Earls could achieve next season. He is also five assists short of becoming only the third defender to join the Rochester Rhinos top ten list in assists.
