Southern Illinois Miners News Release

Marion, Ill. (August 10, 2015) - The Southern Illinois Miners announce that outfielder Michael Earley has been named the Frontier League's Player of the Week for the week ending August 9th, as chosen by Pointstreak, the official statistical provider of the Frontier League and the Independent Professional Baseball Federation. He becomes the first Miners player to be named Player of the Week since the Frontier League began giving out the weekly honors last season, with four Miners having previously won Pitcher of the Week.

A native of Anderson, Indiana, the former White Sox farmhand had a stellar week for the Miners on their successful road trip to Schaumburg and Evansville. He had at least one hit in each of the six games, with three multi-hit games on the week. Overall, Earley hit .417 (10-for-24) with three doubles, one home run, four runs scored and six RBIs. Among his hits were a big two-run, first-inning home run against Schaumburg ace Eddie Cody to help the Miners to a series win in the Thursday rubber match at Boomers Stadium. He also hit the go-ahead RBI single in the 11th inning on Sunday at Evansville as the Miners bested the Otters and took over sole possession of first place.

On the season, Earley has played in all 72 games for the Miners, hitting .334 with nine homers and 49 RBIs. He ranks in the top-10 in the Frontier League in batting average, RBIs and extra-base hits, while he is currently tied for first in the league with 21 doubles and is second in the league with 96 total hits.

The Miners return home on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. to welcome the Lake Erie Crushers to Rent One Park. Adam Lopez will pitch for Southern Illinois in the contest to kick off a six-game homestand.
