Jersey Express News Release
East Orange, N.J. (Tuesday, January 12, 2010) - The Jersey Express (6-3) return home to East Orange Campus High School this Saturday, when the team will be hosting the Maryland Marvels at 7:00 p.m. As part of the in-game entertainment, legendary NBA guard Earl "the Pearl" Monroe will be signing autographs and a halftime performance will be done by Ciara Corr of Reverse Spin Entertainment.
"This is a big game for us," Express President Marsha Blount stated. "Not only have two of our three losses come against the Marvels, but also we'll have one of the greatest guards to play the game in attendance, Earl 'The Pearl' Monroe."
Monroe was born in Philadelphia and shot to superstardom while playing at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. He exploded for a 41.5 point per game average his senior year, earning NCAA Division II Player of the Year accolades and winning the NCAA D-II National Championship. The following year, he was taken second overall in the NBA Draft by the Baltimore Bullets and won Rookie of the Year honors after averaging 24.3 points per game. His #10 jersey now hangs in the rafters at the Verizon Center in Washington, DC, where the franchise now plays as the Washington Wizards.
After four seasons in Baltimore, Monroe was traded to the New York Knicks where he and Walt Frazier combined forces as the "Rolls Royce Backcourt." Together, the two future Hall of Famers and NBA 50th Anniversary Team selections led the Knicks to the 1973 NBA title. Monroe also had his #15 jersey retired by the Knicks in 1986. For his career, he scored 17,454 points and dished out 3,594 dimes. Known for his innovation the spin move, Monroe named his company, Reverse Spin Entertainment, in retrospect of the agile move.
General admission adult tickets for this game on Saturday night are $10, and anyone who wishes to preorder tickets can do so by emailing info@jerseyexpress.net.
