
Eagles Travel to Richmond for Regular Season Rubber Match

Charlotte N.C. - The Charlotte Eagles will face long-time rivals the Richmond Kickers in their final regular season away match on Saturday, August 9th.
In the Eagles most recent match up they dropped a tough one against Orlando City 4-1, allowing Orlando to clinch a playoff berth for the 2014 USL PRO playoffs. Orlando City still sits at 1st place in USL PRO standings with 49 points. The Eagles sole goal came from Wells Thompson with an assist going to Jonny Leathers in the 75 th minute, marking Thompson's 3rd g oal of the season. Charlotte currently sits at 11th place in the USLPRO standings with 24 points and a 7-12-3 record. The Eagles are only two points out of the 8th and final playoff spot.
In Richmond's last game they traveled to Wilmington where they faced off against the Hammerheads and took a 3-1 victory keeping them high in the standings for USL PRO. The Kickers currently sit in 2nd place four points behind Orlando City with 45 points. The Kickers three goals came from Matthew Delicate, Shay Spitz, and former Charlotte Eagle Samuel Asante. Asante currently has four points this season coming from one goal and two assists. Delicate currently sits in 2nd place in USL PRO points standings with 29.
Charlotte last faced the Richmond Kickers on May 24th when they fell 2-0. George Davis IV scored both goals for the hosts back in May and is currently second on the team in scoring with eight goals and four assists on the season. Richmond is led in scoring by veteran forward Matthew Delicate with 14 goals and one assist so far. Delicate's 14 goals lead the league as well, one ahead of Orlando City's Kevin Molino.
Earlier in the season the Eagles handed Richmond their only loss of the 2014 campaign when they beat the Kickers 2-1 at Queens Sports Complex on April 12th. Richmond opened the scoring with a Michael Seaton goal in the 32nd minute. Charlotte responded after the break when Juan Guzman tied the game in the 54th minute. Jorge Herrera's left footed shot curled in to the near post to give the Eagles a 2-1 advantage in the 89th minute.
Richmond will be short handed in Saturday's matchup as veteran defender Henry Kalungi suffered a knee injury in a friendly against Crystal Palace on Monday, July 28th.
The Eagles return home next Saturday August 16th when they face off against the Rochester Rhinos who currently sit in 5th place in USL PRO standings. Tickets can be purchased at a discounted rate online until the day of the game and can also be purchased at the gate on the 16th.
