Eagles Top Campbell in Final Preseason Match

Charlotte, NC -- The Charlotte Eagles ended their pre-season with a 3-1 victory over the visiting Campbell Camels on Saturday night at Queens Sports Complex.
The Eagles opened the scoring in the 20th minute with Mitchily Waul putting home a cross from Ben Newnam. Waul, a Jamaican international who is awaiting his official USSF approval, joins the Eagles from Tivoli Gardens in the Jamaican National Premier League.
The teams would head into the break scoreless and coach Steffens would make three changes at the half. He would replace Forward Stefan Smith, who played previously with Antigua Barracuda FC, Midfielder Drew Yates and Defender Brady Bryant with Nate Thornton, Matt Gold and the newest Eagle Rohan Reid, a Jamaican National team player who is also awaiting USSF approval.
Nate Thornton would find Christian Ramirez, a first year pro from Concordia University (CA),with a through ball in the 66th minute and Ramirez would double the Eagles lead. Campbell would pull one back in the 83rd minute off of a corner kick.
First year Eagle Samuel Asante would restore the two goal lead in the 89th minute as he would chip one over the goalkeeper from 25 yards out and that would be how it would end, 3-1 Charlotte.
The Eagles will open their 2013 USL PRO regular season against Antigua Barracuda FC on Saturday, April 13th. The game is presented by Taki's and with the first 1,000 fans getting a free bag of Taki's. There will also be t-shirt and other prizes given away during the game.
