Colorado Eagles News Release
WINDSOR, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche, announced Thursday that they have signed forward Luke Salazar to a standard player contract for the 2016-17 season. A native of Thornton, Colorado, Salazar has spent the past four seasons playing in Europe, after enjoying a four-year career at the University of Denver.
"I know a number of guys who played at DU and went on to play for the Eagles and they had nothing but great things to say about the Colorado Eagles and the experience of playing for a top-notch organization," said Salazar. "When you know that you're going to an awesome organization, it gets you pretty excited to play; it should be a great year."
The 5-foot-7, 160-pound forward amassed 176 points in 211 games overseas, including stops in Norway, Sweden, Austria and most recently with the Manchester Storm of the EIHL, where he posted 23 goals and 39 assists in 61 games last season.
A 2007 graduate of Legacy High School in Broomfield, Salazar generated 88 points in 140 games at the NCAA level with the Pioneers, including a career-high 30 points in 42 games during his senior season. He was also named to the WCHA All-Academic Team on three different occasions.
"Luke is a player that we noticed during his time at the University of Denver and he has since gone on to establish himself as a very solid player at the professional level," said Eagles general manager Chris Stewart. "It's always nice to be able to bring in players who are not only Colorado natives, but difference makers on the ice and we feel that he can be just that for this hockey club."
In just two seasons at the junior level, Salazar netted 51 goals and 59 assists in 119 games with the Wichita Falls Wildcats. In his final season in the NAHL, Salazar led the league with 41 goals in 58 games.
Season tickets for the 2016-17 season are on-sale now and can be reserved with a $50 deposit per seat by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468). The 2016-17 regular season home schedule kicks off on Saturday, October 15th when the Eagles host the Rapid City Rush. A complete schedule can be found at www.ColoradoEagles.com.
