Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte, NC - The Charlotte Eagles Soccer Club is set to host a doubleheader on Saturday, July 13th. The Lady Eagles will host the Carolina Elite Cobras at 5:30 pm. The Men's team will host the Wilmington Hammerheads following the women's contest. The doubleheader will be a "blue out" so fan's are encouraged to wear their best blue outfit!

The Charlotte Lady Eagles play their last home game at Queens Sports Complex this Saturday, July 13th with a 5:30 pm kick off prior to the men's 8:00 pm match. The Lady Eagles and Carolina Elite Cobras both have 13 points and sit in 2nd place in the conference. They will battle in a "win or go home" match where the winner of Saturday's game will then travel north to play against the Dayton Dutch Lions who clinched first place in the conference last Sunday.

Saturday's game against the Carolina Elite Cobras will be the third time the team's meet. It will be the first time the Cobras play on the Lady Eagles home field. The Lady Eagles were victorious in both games against the Cobras with a 1-0 win on May 29th and a 2-0 victory on June 28th. Keep an eye on Macky Wingo and Gloria Douglas, two of the Lady Eagles who found the back of the net last game against Carolina.

Goalkeeper Robyn Jones is the anchor of the defense, earning two shutouts against Carolina and has the same plan for Saturday's game. Jones's comments prior to Saturday's game were, "We are starting to put 90 minutes together of quality soccer, and I really believe that when we give it our all, our high energy is very hard to match. I believe that we are peaking at the right time, that we haven't yet seen the best of the Lady Eagles."

The Men's team will look to keep their eight-game undefeated streak alive when the Wilmington Hammerheads visit on Saturday night. Charlotte returns home after five consecutive road games and are currently sitting 4th in the USL PRO standings

The Eagles received goals from Jorge Herrera, Nate Thornton and a Pittsburgh own goal to come out victorious against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds. Goalkeeper Eric Reed turned in a standout performace as well, stopping 9 of the 11 shots he faced. Charlotte then traveled to Rochester where new Eagles midfielder Paul Islas opened the scoring in the 33rd minute. Jorge Herrera added a 2nd half goal but the Rhinos came back and added two goals in the final six minutes to earn a draw.

The two goals from Jorge Herrera this last weekend moved him into a first-place tie with Christian Ramirez with five goals apiece. Goalkeeper Eric Reed has played all but 12 minutes of the 2013 season. His six shutouts have him tied for first in the league. Reed is also ranked in the top five in the league in wins (7), ties (8), saves (70) and goals against average (1.422). The newest Charlotte Eagle, Paul Islas, made his debut this past weekend and scored in the 3-2 victory against the Riverhounds.

Wilmington is riding it's own wave momentum heading into this weekend's game. The Hammerheads are undefeated in six-straight games and have moved within three points of a playoff spot.

Cody Arnoux scored a 90th minute game winning goal against the Harrisburg City Islanders last Saturday, July 6th. Defender Daniel Steres opened the scoring for the Hammerheads in the 33rd minute. Steres is the reigning USL PRO Player of the Week thanks to his performances against the City Islanders and a 2-2 draw against Orlando City.
