Beijing Shougang Eagles News Release

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Beijing Shougang Eagles will return home for the first time since June 1st when they host the Cleveland Comets for a 4-game series starting June 19th and concluding June 22nd. The home stand will continue June 24th when the Aussie Peppers come to town for a 5-game series that will run until June 27th.

The first series will be the second time the Comets and Eagles have met on the field. The most recent meeting between the two took place in Avon, OH. The Comets won the lone meeting 8-2 at a rain soaked Spenger Stadium. Comets Centerfielder Sammy Marshall led the way with 3 runs and while going 1 for 3 at the plate with a walk. The Comets like the Eagles have an international background with the Comets and Team Mexico striking a deal this past spring. Players with Hispanic backgrounds will have the opportunity to earn a spot with Team Mexico.

In the second series, the Aussie Peppers and Beijing Shougang Eagles will meet for their second series of the 2019 NPF Season. The Peppers won the shortened series due to rain 3 games to 1. The games were played in North Mankato, Minn. The Peppers are led by Carmelle Sorensen who is batting .375 with a .750 slugging percentage.

In August of 2016 the International Olympic Committee announced that softball and baseball will return to the Olympics held in Tokyo in 2020. The news caused a mass reaction from many countries around the world to ramp up their national softball efforts in order to qualify for the 2020 Olympic Games.

The Eagles are coached by Hunter Veach who was promoted from China's secondary team Head Coach this past year. Veach was previously an assistant for Auburn University's softball team. The coaching staff includes a mix of Chinese and American coaches. The team also features three Americans and graduates from Auburn, Kendall Veach, Angel Bunner and Victoria Draper.

Tickets are available at www.beijingeagles.com and daytonatortugas.com, or by calling the Tortugas' ticket office at 386-257-3172. The games will be broadcasted on NPF TV with Kenny Schierlinger handling Play by Play duties and Francesca Enea as Color Analyst.
