Eagles Host Rhinos in Pivotal League Contest

Charlotte NC - The Charlotte Eagles host the Rochester Rhinos this Saturday June 16th at Queens Sports Complex at 7 pm. The Eagles came away with a 1-0 win in Rochester in their previous meeting on June 28th.

In the Eagles last game they dropped a hard loss to the Richmond Kickers 2-1 on the road who currently sit at 2nd place in USL PRO League standings, one point behind leaders Orlando City SC. Two first half goals from George Davis IV and Luke Vercollone were enough to for the hosts to come away with three points. The Eagles lone goal came from Jorge Herrera assisted by Fred Sekyere in the 53rd minute. Sekyere's pass slipped Herrera in behind the Richmond defense, the Colombian did well to beat Ryan Taylor for his team-leading seventh goal of the season.

In the two teams last matchup the Eagles took a 1-0 victory on the road with a goal coming from Gui Brandao assisted by Wells Thompson.

Following the loss the Eagles currently sit at 12th place in the standings with 24 points, sitting five points behind Charleston and Oklahoma City who are tied for the 8th and final playoff spot. The Eagles have five games remaining left in the regular USL PRO season and hope to get a big push for a run towards the post season.

In Rochester's last game they faced off against Orange County Blues FC where they fell 1-0 to the Blues at home. The only goal of the match came from Orange County's Allan Russell on a penalty kick in the 41st minute of play. The Rhinos currently sit at 6th place in the standings, leading the Eagles by seven points.

The Rhinos handed league-leaders Orlando City their first loss of the season on Sunday, July 27th as a Colin Rolfe goal in the 31st minute gave the hosts the 1-0 lead. Rookie goalkeeper John McCarthy lead the way for the Rhinos that night recording his 8th shutout of the season against the Lions. McCarthy now sits alone at the top of the league shutout standings with nine so far in 14 games played.
