Charlotte Eagles News Release

Charlotte N.C. - The Charlotte Eagles and Oklahoma City Energy FC fought to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night at Queens Sports Complex.

In the 20th minute Charlotte had the first chance of the game as Richard Dixon's cross found Darren Toby who laid it off for Juan Guzman. The midfielder's shot was over the crossbar. 5 minutes later the Eagles had another opportunity, but Bilal Duckett's header off a cross from Fred Sekyere but it was cleared off the line by the OKC goalkeeper.

Energy started to shift the other way when Peabo Doue created a chance off a throw in but the it was smothered by Alec Kann. OKC continued to pressure the Eagles and opened up the scoring in the 33rd minute when a shot skimmed the head of Ben Newnam, bounced off the Eagles' crossbar, found Pete Caringi who took a touch before Steven Perry put it past goalkeeper Alec Kann.

The Eagles evened the scoring in the 48th minute when Wells Thompson took a through ball from Fred Sekyere and slotted it past Badr. Jorge Herrera had a number of opportunities in the second half with header's in the 52nd and 63rd minutes both of which went just over the crossbar. Another opportunity came about for Thompson in the 69th minute. He was played in on a good flick on by Giuseppe Gentile but his right footed shot couldn't be kept on target.

The momentum continued after the Eagles tied it up and the teams played evenly in each end. It seemed as if the Eagles had jumped ahead when a ball off the chest of Guzman looked like it had made it into the goal but it was judged that Badr had the ball stopped just on the goal line.

The Eagles came close to earning the victory late in the game as Ben Newnam's cross found Drew Yates who laid it off to Jorge Herrera but the ball didn't cross the line and was cleared by the OKC Energy defense.

Charlotte will return home on Friday, June 13th as the Dayton Dutch Lions visit on the second half of a doubleheader. Kickoff will be at 8 pm and tickets are available for a discounted rate until midnight Thursday. Adults are $7.50 and Children are $5.50 until the day of the game.
