July 10, 2011 - Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League (PGCBL)
Albany Dutchmen News Release
The Albany Dutchmen (10-14) defeated the Amsterdam Mohawks (16-12) at Bob Bellizzi Field on Sunday night. A six-run seventh inning was the highlight of the game for the Dutchmen who inched their way closer to second place in the PGCBL East Division with the victory.
Down 3-0 in the fourth, Albany surged back to take their first lead of the game. An RBI double by Deeds started things off for the Dutchmen, before a two-run home run crushed to left field by first basemen Garren Palmer (Georgia Southern) gave Albany a 3-2 lead through four frames.
Luke Malie (Kentucky) drove in his second run of the contest for the Mohawks to tie the game at 3-3, but the Dutchmen didn't let the tie last for long. Garren Palmer, who went 2-4 with three RBIs, drove in Deeds on an RBI single to give the Dutchmen a decisive 4-3 lead in the seventh. Albany strung together five more runs in the inning to blow things open. A double by Anthony Turgeon (Central Connecticut State) which drove in two and an RBI single by Steve Anderson highlighted the tail end of the Dutchmen rally.
Brantley went five solid innings, giving up three earned runs on seven hits while fanning two. The Mohawks had won nine of their last 10 games coming into tonight's contest; they now have a four game lead on the Dutchmen for second place in the east division. Damon Valloreo recorded the win in the relief while Amsterdam starter Kris Barone was tagged with the loss.
The Dutchmen have the day off tomorrow and will hit the road against the Newark Pilots on Tuesday at 7 p.m. For all Dutchmen information visit www.dutchmenbaseball.com or follow us @DutchmenPGCBL.
