Dustin Combs Returns to Racers for a Third Season

Akron Racers Assistant Field Manager Dustin Combs

AKRON, OH - The Akron Racers announced today that they have extended the contract of Assistant Field Manager, Dustin Combs for the 2016 season. This season will mark his third tour of duty with the Racers.
"Consistency has been a prerequisite in our desire to stabilize our coaching staff," commented Joey Arrietta, the Racers GM. "We have been able to accomplish that goal these past two seasons and I look forward to maintaining that in 2016 with Brian Levin and now, Dustin."
In his first season with the Racers, in 2014, Combs and Field Manager, Brian Levin were named the NPF Coaching Staff of the Year. In that season, Combs helped the Racers improve from 16-32 to 24-24 and a spot in the finals of the NPF Championship Series for the first time since Akron won the Cowles Cup in 2005.
Combs is in his 10th season at William Jewell College, where he's posted a winning season and a berth in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament in each of the years he's coached the Cardinals. William Jewell has won 261 games under Combs.
Last season was William Jewell's fourth 30-win season under Combs which also included guiding the Cardinals to a league-leading (GLVC) batting average and a new school record (.326) William Jewell posted its most successful season in the program's history in 2013. The Cardinals registered a 32-15 record and finished fourth in the GLVC, just missing the DII College World Series.
