Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX 6/19/09 - The Amarillo Dusters will look to bounce back from last week's heartbreaking defeat in overtime, as they travel to the heart of Arkansas to take on the Arkansas Twisters for the second time this season Saturday night at 7:05 PM.

Amarillo (2-9), will attempt to break their game-high scoring mark for the third straight game (62 vs. Rio Grande Valley, 77 vs. Bossier-Shreveport). Despite Dusters quarterback Julian Reese being involved in all 11 Amarillo touchdowns last week, Reese did not receive the af2's "Offensive Player of the Week" award. On the other hand, wide receiver DuVaughn Flagler will look to match last week's performance, catching an af2 career-high 10 balls for 175 yards and 5 touchdowns. Flagler was awarded the af2's "Catch of the Week" award Tuesday.

The Arkansas Twisters (7-4), who are currently riding a two-game losing streak (yielding 56 points each to Oklahoma City and Tulsa), are playing in just their second home game in the last six weeks. Arkansas boasts the af2's second-ranked passing offense (302.2 yards/game), as well as the league's fifth-best pass efficiency (118.1) lead by quarterback Kyle Rowley. Rowley has completed over two-thirds of his throws this season (67.2%) while accumulating 3336 yards and 69 touchdowns. Arkansas will be without their most potent weapon this week, wide receiver Rod Harper. Harper leads the af2 in scoring (228 points), and receiving yards per game (171.9). The Twisters are 3-0 this season versus the af2's Texas teams.

What to watch for: Wide receivers for both Amarillo and Arkansas. Dusters DuVaughn Flagler, Alex Watson, and Xavier Hair were at the receiving end of all 10 Julian Reese touchdown passes last week. Without superstar wide receiver Rod Harper (38 total touchdown receptions), Arkansas will look to Steve Bergeski, Olan Coleman, LeJuan Edwards, and Robert Kilow, who altogether have combined for 18 Twister scores this season.
