Amarillo Venom News Release
AMARILLO, Texas The Amarillo Dusters will travel this weekend to Kennewick, Washington to battle the Tri-Cities Fever. This will be only the second time that the two teams have played. In 2007, the Fever beat the Dusters 59-50 at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.
"This game is going to be a tough battle," said head coach Chris MacKeown. "Not only are we coming off a terrible tragedy with Donte Newsome, we are facing the longest road trip of the season. The mental toughness will be the key to winning this game."
If the Dusters defeat Tri-Cities, they will be one step closer to achieving their goal of making it to the playoffs. Amarillo is currently sitting in ninth place. The top eight teams go on to the playoffs.
"I've figured that we need to win at least two more games to make it to the playoffs in August," MacKeown said. "Every game is make it or break it at this point, and we have to do whatever it takes to win to achieve our goal."
The Dusters will be starting with the same offensive line-up as the last couple of games. Craig Fulton, Jr., Jim Lukowiak, and Bobby Chase will be the starting receivers, following the leadership of quarterback Julian Reese. Rob Nelson, Josh Kline, and Randy Degg will continue to form the ever-strengthening Dusters offensive line.
The Fever has lost the last four games of their schedule. They are led by quarterback Tali Ena, in his rookie season with the af2. Players to watch out for include kicker Kyle Hooper. His 89.4 PAT success rate puts him at 6th overall in the af2 rankings.
Fever defensive lineman Johnny Jackson is the Fever's all-time sack leader with 8.5 this season alone. Wide receivers LaMonte Jones and JR Thomas have both put up impressive numbers on the offensive side of the ball. Jones is also a Fever defensive back, earning several JLS Ironman of the Week awards at the team level.
