Amarillo Venom News Release

Amarillo, TX 6/26/09 - The Amarillo Dusters look to fight back once more from another heartbreaking defeat last week in Arkansas, as they take on the Iowa Barnstormers for the second time this season Saturday night at 7:05 PM in the Amarillo Civic Center.

Amarillo (2-10), will count on their recent offensive home dominance to defeat Iowa. The Dusters have accumulated 139 points over their last two home games (138 combined points in their previous four home games). In Amarillo's prior home game, quarterback Julian Reese accounted for all 11 Duster scores, while DuVaughn Flagler earned a season-high 10 receptions for 175 yards and 5 touchdowns.

The Iowa Barnstormers (7-4), who are currently tied for first place in the Midwest division, have not lost in regulation since May 2nd (4 wins, 1 overtime loss last week). The Barnstormers are led by wide receivers Tim Dodge and Walter McCown, who have earned 16 touchdowns a piece this season. In the first game between the two clubs, Amarillo held Dodge to no touchdown receptions. Despite the feat, the Dusters were not able to take him off the scoreboard entirely, as Dodge earned a rushing touchdown along with his first kickoff return for a score on the season.

What to watch for: Amarillo's wide receivers versus Iowa's defensive unit. Dusters DuVaughn Flagler, Alex Watson, and Xavier Hair were at the receiving end of all 8 Julian Reese touchdown throws last week. Iowa's defensive unit has played consistent throughout the second half of the season, allowing no more than 50 points in 6 of their last 7 games.
