Milwaukee Wave United News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) Forward Todd Dusosky scored his sixth goal of the season in the 51st minute to spark Milwaukee Wave United, the Wave's A-League (outdoor) team, to a 1-0 win over the Edmonton Aviators Saturday night (7/17) at Uihlein Soccer Park. A crowd of 2,327 saw Wave United extend its club record unbeaten streak to seven consecutive games (6-0-1) as Milwaukee improved its overall record to 7-7-2 (23 points). The Aviators, who have dropped four-in-a-row, fell to 2-8-6 (12 points). It was the first-ever meeting between the clubs, who will clash in the second-of-four regular season match-ups this upcoming Thursday, July 22, 8:05 PM CDT at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton, AB.
With the strength of a 15-20 MPH breeze behind them, the Aviators created the best chances of the first half. Sean Fraser had the two best opportunities, having one shot stopped by Milwaukee goalkeeper Jim Larkin on a right side blast from 12 yards out before chipping another just over the cross bar against the hard charging âkeeper after taking a pass over the top from teammate Chris Lemire.
Milwaukee quickly seized the advantage with the wind in the second half and applied heavy pressure on the Edmonton defense which culminated in Dusosky's goal six minutes after the halftime break. The play started when Jamar Beasley, after intercepting an errant pass, had a shot blocked near the top of the penalty area by a sliding Liam DeSilva. As both Beasley and DeSilva laid on the turf, Milwaukee's Nino Marcantonio ran on to the loose ball and eventually sent a cross from the left endline to Dusosky, who was able redirect the ball past diving Edmonton âkeeper Jose Luis Campi.
The Aviators best chance to score came in the 86th minute, when Paul Dhaliwal's curling shot from the top of the box was headed off the line by Milwaukee defender Steve Lawrence. Dhaliwal's attempt came just after Larkin had punched out a high serve in traffic and could not get back to his line. The Wave United âkeeper, who posted his fourth shutout of the season, had two saves for the night while Campi finished with six.
