Melbourne, Florida â Teddy Dupay is no stranger to injury. While with the Florida Gators, he played the 2000 season with a torn rotator cuff, opting to undergo surgery after the basketball season ended. The next year, he needed surgery to repair two herniated disks. Though the procedure this time could not wait, Dupay found himself back on the court, playing his usual aggressive game, only 20 days after the surgery.
A torn ACL sidelined him for the past year and a little scar tissue has set the fiery guard back on his timetable a few weeks, as Dupay opted to undergo an arthroscopic procedure yesterday afternoon.
"My knee was swelling up a lot after practice," said Dupay. "I didn't think it felt that bad, but when I went to have it drained the other day, my doctor suggested we go in there and clean out the scar tissue from the ACL surgery."
So Dupay, back home resting for the time being, must wait another few weeks for his latest comeback.
"I'll rest for a few days and then begin to rehab. I look forward to being able to get out on the court again and play with the Blue Ducks. In the meantime, I'll be here with the team, supporting them every step of the way. I can't wait for opening day in Brevard."
The Blue Ducks begin their third season of USBL action at Florida Tech on Thursday, April 22nd.
The USBL serves as a minor league to the NBA. In its 18-year existence, over 140 players have graduated from the USBL to the NBA. Stars such as Avery Johnson, Spud Webb, Mugsy Bouges, Chris Childs, Anthony Mason and Darrell Armstrong all got their start in the league.
