Dunham Leads Hounds to First Sweep Since May

Aiken Foxhounds News Release
AIKEN, S.C. - Steve Dunham pitched a complete game and Dustin Richardson and Ben Bando hit fifth-inning solo home runs as the Aiken Foxhounds (35-39, 13-16) earned their first series sweep since May, defeating the Charlotte County Redfish (19-54, 7-20) 5-3 Saturday night at Roberto Hernandez Stadium.
With the game tied at 3-3, Richardson drilled a 3-2 pitch over the foul pole in left to give Aiken their first lead. Bando followed one-out later with a blast over the scoreboard in left-center field.
The two-run lead was all Dunham needed on the mound, as the big right-hander did not allow a run over the final six innings.
Dunham (6-7) had allowed 12 earned runs in 11.0 innings over his last two starts, but was masterful Saturday as he threw 121 pitches, allowing three runs on eight hits while walking three and striking out six.
Charlotte County jumped ahead against Dunham in the top of the second. After a hit by pitch, a single, and a stolen base put runners on second and third with one out, a Dunham wild pitch allowed Jason Hurst to score the game's first run. An infield single put runners on the corners again when a pickoff attempt turned into a double steal, including a rare steal of home on the front end.
An RBI double from Josh Murray in the third gave the Redfish a 3-0 lead, but Dunham was flawless from that point on, allowing his offense to get the Hounds back in the game.
A B.J. Richmond double and a Ben Bando single to start the fourth set the stage for a game-tying three-run inning for Aiken. Tony Harper plated Richmond with a one-out single, and a two-RBI double off the bat of Andy Lane tied the game at 3-3.
Including his 11th home run of the season, Bando went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI while Richmond also added two hits in four at-bats. Richardson's home run was his first of the season.
Billy Kovatch, Billy Hogan, and Aaron Simmons each had two hits on the night for Charlotte County.
Charlotte County's Celson Polanco allowed five runs on seven hits in six innings and fell to 0-8 on the season.
Aiken hits the road for a three-game series at league-leading South Georgia beginning Monday, August 13, at 7:05 PM.
