Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees News Release
HIDALGO, TEXAS --- The Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League (CHL) today announced that the team has signed defenseman Kurtis Dulle (DEW-lee) and forward Justin Kanigan to the 2009-10 roster.
Dulle, 29, begins his fifth full professional season and fourth with RGV. Last season he finished second in team defenseman scoring and had a career-best 35 points (7-28-35). H was one of six Killer Bees to compete in all 64 regular season games and also finished as the team PIM leader (119).
The 5-foot-10, 196-pound Craik, Saskatchewan, native played 64 games for the Killer Bees during the 2005-06 season and another 27 in 2006-07 before being part of a trade with the Tulsa Oilers. Dulle represented RGV at the 2007 CHL All Star Game.
As a member of the Youngstown Steelhounds in 2007-08, Dulle collected 31 points (5-27-31) and 100 PIM. His plus-27 rating was sixth-best in the league and fourth-best among all defensemen. Overall, Dulle has played in 272 pro regular season games and posted 132 points (29-103-132).
"Kurtis is a skilled defenseman with good speed and a dangerous shot," Killer Bees Head Coach Chris Brooks said. "He sees the ice well and is a threat on offense whenever he's on the ice."
Kanigan, 26, played the last four seasons at the University of Lethbridge. A 6-foot-5, 221-pound Castlegar, British Columbia, native, he spent five seasons playing in the Western Hockey League for Saskatoon, Spokane and Vancouver. His most productive season was in 2000-02 when he played in 64 games and garnered 14 points (5-9-14) along with 100 PIM.
"Justin is a big kid looking for his first taste of pro hockey," Brooks explained. "He has the size to be an impact player and I'm sure will battle hard for a roster spot."
The Killer Bees return to Dodge Arena ice this October for their seventh season in the CHL. Opening night is set for Saturday, October 17 at 7:30 p.m. vs. the Laredo Bucks. The team will host a preseason game vs. the Corpus Christi IceRays on Sunday, October 11, at 6 p.m. Season tickets are available now by calling 956-843-PUCK (7825).
