Ducks Stand at 9-9

Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks News Release


The Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks spent the Memorial weekend battling the Edinburg Roadrunners.

After a long trip to Texas, the Ducks fell to the Roadrunners with a score of 7-2. Edinburg (10-7) scored two runs in the first and another in the second off Phillip May (2-1). Benjamin Cordova doubled in the first run of the game and Derek Henderson followed with an RBI single. The Roadrunners took advantage of the Ducks mistakes for four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 7-1 lead. Springfield/Ozark scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth and scored again in the seventh on a Damian Roberts single. Omar Ortiz relieved Flores with two outs and two on in the seventh inning and struck out Steve Green to then end the inning.

On Saturday, May 24, the Springfield/Ozark Mountain opened the first frame with one run scored by right fielder Steve Green. The Roadrunners countered with one run to tie it up in the bottom of the first with a double play by Benjamin Cordova. In the top of the fourth, Springfield scored another run on a single by Chris Buckley to centerfield scoring Preston Harriman. At the top of the fifth, the Ducks scored again to make it 3-1 on a throwing error by the third baseman, Eric Gonzalez. In the top of the ninth the Ducks scored two more runs to up the tally 5-1. Tim McClaskey (3-1), winning pitcher for the Ducks pitched 8 scoreless innings until the bottom of the ninth when the Roadrunners mounted a charge and scored one more run to make the final score 5-2.

The series finale between the Roadrunners and the Ducks ended with Edinburg taking the win with a close score of 8-6. Edinburg took an early 6-0 lead over the Ducks and then held on for the victory. The Roadrunners scored a run in the first inning and five in the second off Matt Dill. Edinburg starter Eric Montoya held the Ducks to two runs through the first five innings, but ran into trouble in the seventh when he surrendered three runs. With the bases loaded, Terence Green tripled off reliever J.C. Ortiz and scored on a throwing error by the shortstop. Damion Roberts scored two runs, with Steve Green, Bryan King, and Chris Buckley scoring one.

With a quick trip from Edinburg to Rio Grande, the Ducks were rested up and won the first game of a three game series. Ross Cowling had another fine outing after striking out 6 and scattering four hits and one unearned run through eight innings. Steve Green provided the offensive firepower with two hits and three RBIs with Adam Wheeler scoring three times in the game. Steve Oelke takes the mound for Tuesday's game to take on Steve Brown of the Rio Grande Whitewings as the Ducks attempt to move above .500 for the season.
