The Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks to bring in three new players - Eddie Lang from Texas, Bryan King from Oklahoma and Phillip May from Arkansas.
Eddie Lang, a 23 year old center fielder, went to Texas A&M and played last season with Edinburg. The Ducks acquired him from the Mozley trade. Head Coach Phil Wilson says Lang "gives us a switch hitter at the top of the order, he can play all 3 outfield spots, and I was extremely impressed with the hustle and determination he had with Edinburg." He played 42 games, of that he hit five doubles, one triple and one home run. Lang's average for 2002 was .221
King & May Return
Left fielder Bryan King, 23 years old from Oklahoma, will be re-signing with the Ducks for his second year. In 2002, he played with Canton before coming to the Springfield/Ozark Mountain Ducks. King could either be found on second base or in the out-field. This year he'll be in the left-field. 2002 season ended with King played 29 games with 18 runs, six doubles and five runs batted in. His overall average was.278. Head Coach Phil Wilson comments that King "proved extremely valuable in playing three different positions. I'm excited because with a year of professional experience under his belt, he will give us the same consistency as last year."
Southpaw Phillip May will be returning to the Ducks for a second season. A 24-year-old Tennessee native pitched seven games, six of which he finished for the 2002 season. He finished the season with a 6.48 earned run average.
"After getting over the first two game jitters, he pitched extremely impressive last year and we look forward to getting the same from him in the 2003 sesaon," says Head Coach Phil Wilson. "We will use Phillip in the middle as a relief, as well as in starting him.
