AFL I Arena Football League (1987-2008)

Drive to ArenaBowl XXI hits high gear with week nine matchups

April 25, 2007 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I) News Release

NEW YORK - The Drive to ArenaBowl XXI New Orleans heats up as the ArenaBowl XX Champion and Central Division leading Chicago Rush (6-1) welcome the Philadelphia Soul (4-3) to Allstate Arena for Russell Athletic ESPN Arena Football Monday on Monday, April 30, at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN2 and ESPN360.com.

The Rush, No. 3 in Schutt Sports Poll, is currently on a franchise record six-game winning streak and holds a 2-1 all-time record against the Soul.

The Soul, No. 10 won last season's 56-55 overtime thriller in a game that saw Philadelphia DB EDDIE MOTEN intercept Rush QB MATT D'ORAZIO'S two-point conversion attempt in the end zone to seal the win for the Soul.

This game also showcases two of the top candidates for the Offensive and ADT Defensive Player of the Year Awards as Moten meets Chicago WR BOBBY SIPPIO for the first time.

Sippio, (64 REC, 1,010 YDs, 32 TDs) leads the League in scoring (192 points), receiving touchdowns (32), and is on pace to shatter the all-time single-season record in both categories.

Moten, (6 INTs, 108 RET YDs, 2 TDs) leads the AFL in passes defensed with 17 and is tied for second in the League with six interceptions and is projected to break the all-time single-season record in both categories.

The Colorado Crush (5-3) travel to Kansas City to face the Brigade (4-3) on Friday, April 27, at 8 p.m. ET at Kemper Arena in a battle for second place in the Central Division.

Colorado QB JOHN DUTTON (2,069 YDs, 40 TDs) looks to take the Crush to 3-0 against Kansas City. With a victory, Colorado will have won three straight games for the first time this season, while Kansas City hopes to bounce back from their 49-40 loss to Nashville on Friday.

Colorado's WR DAMIAN HARRELL (62 REC, 718 YDS, 20 TDs), the reigning two-time Offensive Player of the Year, squares off against three-time ADT Defensive Player of the Year award winner DB KENNY MCENTYRE (3 INTs, 1 TD) in what is sure to be a great matchup.

The Georgia Force (7-1), No. 1 in this week's Schutt Sports Poll for the first time this season, travel to face Southern Division rival, New Orleans (4-4), on Friday, April 27, at 7 p.m. ET (CST - Live).

The VooDoo, No. 12, hope to bounce back from a 45-38 overtime loss in Austin on Saturday. Led by QB ANDY KELLY (1,695 YDs, 28 TDs), New Orleans can get back in the race for the Southern Division crown with an upset.

Led by second-ranked AFL passer QB CHRIS GREISEN (131.7 rating) (2,585 YDs, 64 TDs), Georgia's "trifecta" of WR CHRIS JACKSON (76 REC, 1,062 YDs, 26 TDs), WR/LB TROY BERGERON (63 REC, 863 YDs, 21 TDs), and WR/LB DEREK LEE (57 REC, 598 YDs, 15 TDs) became the only trio of wide receivers to have back-to-back 100-yard receiving games this season as each recorded at least 100 receiving yards in Weeks 7 and 8.

The Western Division leading Utah Blaze (5-3) travel to the HP Pavilion in San Jose to take on the San Jose SaberCats (4-3) in a battle for the top spot in the West on Saturday, April 28, at 10:30 p.m. ET (FSN - Rocky Mountain - Delay, 11:30 p.m., FSN - Bay Area- Delay, Sunday, 4/29, 3 a.m.).

Under the leadership of QB JOE GERMAINE (2,779 YDs, 60 TDs), the AFL's leading passer (133.8 rating), Utah holds a 3-1 record in their division and look to recover from their 83-69 loss to Arizona on Friday.

The SaberCats, led by QB MARK GRIEB (2,297 YDs, 47 TDs), hope to keep their undefeated home (3-0) and division records (2-0) intact.

This week's games also include: Nashville at Dallas on Friday (SIRIUS Radio Channel 119); Arizona at New York on Saturday (FSN - Arizona - Live, FSN - New York - Live); Grand Rapids at Los Angeles on Saturday (FSN - Detroit - Live, FSN - West - Live, SIRIUS Radio Channel 119); Columbus at Tampa Bay on Sunday (Bright House - Live, AFL NET), and Orlando at Las Vegas on Sunday.
