Drive Defeat Skyforce, Remain Atop Central

Grand Rapids, Mich. - Jan. 1- The Grand Rapids Drive (9-6) defeated the Sioux Falls Skyforce (8-8) by a score of 119-109 on New Year's Day in a matchup of the top two Central Division teams. The win means the Drive maintain their hold on first place in the division.

The game was tight until the Drive pulled away in the third quarter with a three-point barrage, sinking seven out of their eight attempts from deep on their way to a 40-31 quarter. Sioux Falls mounted a comeback attempt late in the fourth that fell short.

This matchup featured two 2014 NBA draftees, Shabazz Napier and Spencer Dinwiddie, playing on assignment from the Miami Heat and Detroit Pistons, respectively. Napier was the 24th pick in the draft and Dinwiddie was the 38th.

Napier had 22 points off the bench for Sioux Falls to lead his team in scoring and Dinwiddie racked up 18 points, five rebounds and six assists for Grand Rapids.

A balanced scoring attack led the Skyforce as five other players scored in double figures as well as Napier. Scotty Hopson had 17 points and Tyler Johnson added 15.

Adonis Thomas had 22 points, tying for the Drive's team lead in scoring. Willie Reed was active on both ends of the floor, recording a double-double with 22 points and 11 rebounds. L.D. Williams had 21 points off the bench.

The Skyforce stayed in the game with a rim-attacking offense that produced 35 free throw attempts, converting on 30 of them.

These teams have a rematch scheduled for Saturday, January 3 back in the Deltaplex, and then will play in Sioux Falls again on the 4th.
