Grand Rapids Drive News Release
CANTON - The Grand Rapids Drive (16-18) picked up their third straight win as they continued to try and keep their playoff hopes alive by defeating the Canton Charge (12-21) on the road Wednesday night by a 119-109 final. The Charge dropped their sixth consecutive contest.
The Drive were in control for the majority of the game despite strong second and fourth quarters by the home team. The Charge's largest lead was just two points despite outscoring the Drive 68-54 outside the first and third quarters.
Kalin Lucas led the Drive with 20 points and Isaiah Whitehead scored 19 for Grand Rapids. Johnny Hamilton finished with 15 points and 12 rebounds off the bench to go with Zach Lofton's 17 bench points. Other double-digit performers were Michael Bethea Jr. (13 points), Todd Withers (10 points) and Speedy Smith (10 assists). Two-way players Whitehead and Lucas combined for 16-of-30 shooting from the field.
The Charge saw Levi Randolph and Kobi Simmons combine for 50 points in defeat. Randolph was the slight winner on the team lead as he finished with 26 points, including hitting six of his eight three-point attempts. Scoochie Smith notched 12 assists off the bench for the Charge as well and JaCorey Williams stuffed the stat sheet with 11 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
The Drive only attempted 88 field goals on the night but shot 55 percent from the floor and 38 percent from three-point range. Largely due to the Drive's efficiency, Canton only pulled down 32 rebounds on the night. Incredibly, they actually posted more team assists than rebounds with 35 assists. The Drive had only 24 assists but posted 51 rebounds.
Grand Rapids will go for the season sweep of the Wisconsin Herd in their next game, which will be back at DeltaPlex this Friday night. The Charge will look to end their skid when they take on the Westchester Knicks on the road also on Friday.
