Tulsa Drillers News Release
Saturday night proved to be another tough game for the Tulsa Drillers as they dropped their third game in a row. The Northwest Arkansas Naturals handed the Drillers their eighth loss in the last nine games, winning by a score of 7-5.
The Naturals wasted no time getting on the board when Jose Duarte scored on a sacrifice fly by first baseman Kila Kaaihue in the bottom of the first. By the end of the third inning, the Naturals had expanded their lead to 3-0 behind an RBI triple by Angel Sanchez and an RBI double by Juan Richardson.
The Drillers broke into the scoring in the top of the fourth when Dexter Fowler scored on a single by Tony Blanco. Blanco was the bright spot of the night finishing 3-4 with a double, a run scored, and 2 runs batted in. The Naturals answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning to make the score 4-1.
In the top of the sixth, following a Matt Miller double, Blanco drove in his second run of the night with a double to right field. Duke Sardinha blasted his first homer of the season in the top of the seventh to cut the Naturals lead to a score of 4-3.
Just as it appeared the Drillers were going to mount a rally, the Naturals pounded out three runs in the bottom of the seventh to extend their lead to 7-3. The Drillers scored two runs in the top of the eighth but were unable to overcome the seven Naturals runs.
Drillers starter Xavier Cedeno struggled, giving up eight hits and walking four batters in four and two-thirds innings. Cedeno fell to 3-3 on the year with the loss. Dusty Hughes picked up the win for the Naturals moving him to 2-2 for the season.
The Drillers and the Naturals will be back in action Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Tomas Santiago (1-1, 3.52 ERA) will take the mound for the Drillers to try and end the skid. Tulsa will return to Drillers Stadium Wednesday to take on the Arkansas Travelers at 7:05 p.m.
