Drillers, Cards To Play In Tulsa Friday For Title
Published on June 23, 2009 under Texas League (TL1)
Tulsa Drillers News Release
The Tulsa Drillers will host the Springfield Cardinals Friday night, June 26, in what will amount to a one-game playoff to determine the first-half champion in the Texas League's North Division. The two teams finished the first half with identical 38-32 records following Springfield's 5-2 win over Arkansas Tuesday night. The Drillers had defeated Northwest Arkansas 13-1 earlier in the day to end their first-half schedule.
The game will actually be a second-half regular season game, but under a new rule adopted by the Texas League this season, it will also serve as a first-half playoff. The winner of the match up will be declared the first-half champion and will reserve their spot in the Texas League playoffs in September.
Tulsa fans will have a chance to view history, as it will be the first such playoff in the history of the Texas League.
First pitch for the game is scheduled for 7:05PM. There will also be a post-game Fireworks Show following the game.
The pitching match up will feature a pair of Texas League All-Stars. Jhoulys Chacin (6-5, 2.92 ERA) will take the mound for the Drillers, while Springfield will counter with Trey Hearne (7-1, 2.96 ERA).
