Dragons Win The East!

May 14, 2005 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New York Dragons News Release

(May 14) The New York Dragons have won the Eastern Division Championship for the third consecutive season and are now guaranteed a home playoff game Sunday, May 29 at 3:30 PM at the Nassau Coliseum. A loss by the Dallas on Saturday night put the Dragons out of reach for the Desperados.

“It’s a great feeling knowing we’ve won our division, but we still have work to do,” said Dragons head coach Weylan Harding. “We have Tampa Bay on Sunday and we want that No. 1 seed.”

The Dragons take on the Tampa Bay Storm at the St. Pete Times Forum at 1 PM on Sunday. The game is being nationally broadcasted on NBC with Tom Hammond calling the play-by-play action and Pat Haden as the analyst.

Entering Sunday’s game, the Dragons remain 1.5 games back of the Georgia Force for the No. 1 seed in the National Conference. If the Dragons win their two remaining games and Georgia losses next week, then New York would become the No. 1 seed in the National Conference. In this scenario, the teams would be tied in the standings, but the Dragons’ 53-51 victory over Georgia in Week Seven would give them the tie-breaker and the top seed.

Tickets are still available for the Dragons season finale at home on Saturday, May 21 versus the John Elway-owned Colorado Crush. For more ticket information on that game as well as potential home playoff games, fans should call a Dragons’ ticket representative at 1-866-AFL-TIXX.
