San Francisco Dragons News Release

Denver, CO - The San Francisco Dragons forced the Denver Outlaws work hard for their 10-9 win in Mile High Stadium on Independence Day. Down by 4 at half time the Dragons outscored the Outlaws 4-1 in the 3rd Quarter and split the 4 goals scored in the 4th Quarter.

Outlaws scored first with 2 goals in the 1st quarter and their third in the beginning of the 2nd quarter before the Dragons got on the scoreboard with an unassisted goal by midfielder Bill McGlone. Denver's Drew Westervelt picked up a goal the next minute which followed with San Francisco's face-off specialist Greg Gurenlian taking possession of the face-off ball and running straight to the crease to put one past Denver's goalie.

Denver came back with 3 goals in a row before Dragons' midfielder Lewis Ratcliff scored off a feed from midfielder Sean Lindsay on a Dragons power play just before the half ended.

The 3rd quarter was all Dragons. MLL All Star attackman Jake Byrne led off the three goal scoring run converting a pass from defenseman Steve Holmes. Several minutes later rookie attackman Matt Lalli picked up the first of his 2 unassisted goals for the game. Rookie midfielder Brendan Loftus followed less than a minute later with his first unassisted goal to put the Dragons within 1 of Denver's 7. The Outlaw then went up by two when Westervelt netted one past Dragons' captain goalie Matt Vallone. Lalli's second goal put the Dragons back within one as the quarter ended: Dragons 7, Outlaws 8.

In the 4th quarter Denver's Brendan Mundorf scored off a Ryan Powell pass to put the Outlaws up by 2. Dragons crept back to within one with midfielder Tim Booth scoring from a setup from McGlone. Outlaw's Powell netted his first goal of the game, unassisted, and the Outlaws were up by 2 again. With 6 minutes left in the game, Dragons' Loftus scored his second which was the last goal by either team. Dragons' captain defenseman Eric Martin led the Dragons with 7 ground balls. Outlaw's Mundorf was named the Bud Light MVP.

Outlaws (6-2) head to play LA Riptide ( 3-3) on July 12th for a 7:30 PM (PT) game at the Home Depot Center. The Dragons (1-6) will host Chicago (2-5) for the third match-up this season at Spartan Stadium in San Jose. Face-off is scheduled 7PM.
