Dragons Acquire OL Steve Franklin In Trade With Georgia

March 28, 2008 - Arena Football League (1987-2008) (AFL I)
New York Dragons News Release

The New York Dragons acquired football veteran OL Steve Franklin from the Georgia Force in exchange for WR Damien Groce.

Franklin was signed as a rookie by Georgia on January 22, 2008, but was on Injured Reserve for the start of the season. He attended training camp with the Dallas Cowboys in 2007, but was released before the start of the season. Franklin played his college ball at Syracuse, where he started 34 of 35 career games on the offensive line. He is set to provide more size and depth on the Dragons line.

Groce, who is in his eighth AFL season, returned to the Dragons in 2008 where he spent the 2002 and 2003 seasons as well. In three games this season, Groce recorded 13 receptions for 151 yards. He also returned 19 kickoffs for 351 yards and a touchdown.

Earlier in the week, the Dragons also placed QB Rohan Davey on recallable waivers. Davey was in his second year with the Dragons. He appeared in all four games this season, starting two, after injuries sidelined starting QB Aaron Garcia in Weeks 2 and 4. Davey completed 67 of 114 passes for 852 yards and 14 touchdowns with five interceptions in those four games.

The Dragons take on the Dallas Desperados on Sunday, March 30 at 3pm. QB Juston Wood will back up QB Aaron Garcia, who is expected to start after missing Week 4 with a rib fracture.
