
Dougherty Named Goalkeeper of the Week

, PA (July 31, 2007) - The 2006 Major League Lacrosse Champions, the Philadelphia Barrage, announced today that goalie Brian "Doc" Dougherty received the Goalkeeper of the Week award for the week ending on July 29. In a 12-11 overtime victory against the New Jersey Pride on July 26, Dougherty had 16 saves and surrendered only nine goals (two of which were two-point goals).
Dougherty has been with the Barrage since 2005 and was named the 2006 Warrior Goalie of the Year after finishing second in the MLL in goals-against average. His impressive numbers are continuing this year, as he currently ranks second in the MLL with an 11.99 goals-against average and a 57.4 save percentage.
The Barrage will conclude the season with two games against division foes the Washington Bayhawks. Philadelphia travels to Washington, D.C. this Saturday, and then comes back to United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pa. for its final game on Saturday, August 11. About the Philadelphia Barrage
The Philadelphia Barrage is a member of Major League Lacrosse, a ten-team professional outdoor lacrosse league. The Barrage moved to Philadelphia prior to the 2004 MLL season and proceeded to win the organization's first MLL Championship at the 2004 New Balance Major League Lacrosse Championship Game. In 2006, the Barrage defeated the Denver Outlaws in the MLL championship game to be crowned the Major League Lacrosse Champions for the second time in two years. United Sports Training Center is an indoor/outdoor sports facility, located in Downingtown, Pa. United Sports plays host to numerous sporting events such as tournaments, high school games and practices for both lacrosse and soccer, special events that range from high school after prom parties to political campaigns. The outdoor facility consists of 11 fields: 10 natural grass and one artificial turf, plus two lighted fields. The indoor facility includes a Mondo Surface clear span field house, two Crystaplex Boarded Sportcourt Surfaces and four 30-foot climbing surfaces.
