
Dougherty Leads The Barrage to a 13-12 Win Over Long Island

Uniondale, NY (June 17, 2006) - The Philadelphia Barrage of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier outdoor lacrosse league, defeated the Long Island Lizards in a come from behind win on Saturday. Goaltender Brian Dougherty was named Bud Light MVP for his 20 saves performance to keep the Barrage the only undefeated them in the MLL.
The Barrage got off to a slow start against the Lizards; they gave up six goals in the first quarter. Greg "Cat" Cattrano held the Barrage scoreless giving his team a six-goal lead to end the first. Blake Miller scored three of the Lizards' goals in the first. Philadelphia's scoreless streak continued into the second quarter with the Lizards scoring two more goals increasing the deficit to eight, including Miller's fourth. Mike Springer finally put the Barrage on the board at 12:58, followed by a goal from Matt Striebel. Cattrano shut down Barrage attackman Will Phillips twice and then Miller answered back with his fifth goal making the score 9 to 2. Philadelphia's Justin Smith notched another one for the Barrage, followed by a goal from Striebel and Springer, putting the score at 9 to 5 and keeping the Barrage in the game. Brian Dougherty came up with a huge save in the final seconds of the half to keep the score 9-5 at halftime.
Philadelphia came up big to start the second quarter with two goals in a row by Springer and Phillips putting them only down by two goals. Striebel put the Barrage only down by one with his third goal of the afternoon. Face off specialist Peter Vlahakis scored off the face off keeping the Lizards lead by two. Striebel scored again for the Barrage, putting then only down by one goal. Cattrano made a great save to keep his team in the lead. Miller scored his sixth goal of the afternoon for the Lizards, giving them another two-goal lead. Dougherty had another huge save at the buzzer to end the third quarter, with the score Barrage 9, Lizards 11. The Lizards started off with possession in the fourth and finished with a goal by Austin Garrison, giving them a three-goal lead. Roy Colsey scored a two-point goal for the Barrage, putting them down, once again, by one goal. Smith scored his second of the game and tying the game at 12 all. B.J. Prager got a huge goal at 3:22 in the fourth putting the Barrage ahead for the first time during the game. Dougherty came up with huge saves in the fourth to end the quarter and giving the Barrage the win. The final score Philadelphia 13, Long Island 12.
Philadelphia makes their final stop on their road trip at Boston against the Cannons. The Barrage return home on June 29 against the Boston Cannons.
