Utah Warriors News Release

WEST VALLEY CITY, UT – For the second straight week quarterback Doug Smith was named the offensive player of the game for the Utah Warriors. Smith led the Warriors to a 51-49 win over the Sioux Falls Storm on Monday night. He finished the game 15x22 for 177 yards and four touchdowns, all with no interceptions. He also finished with a team best 47 yards rushing, the second straight game he has led the team in that category. Smith's 7-yard touchdown run sealed the win for Utah.

Defensive back Jason Potter received his first defensive player of the game recognition after his four tackle performance against the Storm. He added one pass break-up and three of his tackles were solo. His biggest tackle came in the final minute with Sioux Falls trying to get back in the game, Potter tackled Storm quarterback Rich Fuentes at the four to keep the clock running, and securing the Warriors win.

Kicker Pete Garces was named special team player of the game after running his streak to 14-straight PATs made and connecting on both of his field goal attempts. His second field goal was a 49-yard boot in the final minute of the first quarter. Garces also provided one of the game's biggest hits when he dropped Storm return man Trice Crump on his head. The turning point of the game was when Garces dribbled an on-side kick that Utah recovered in the third quarter, leading the Utah's first lead of the second half.

The Warriors travel to Billings, Montana this Saturday for a battle with the Outlaws. Utah return to the E-Center on April 17 when they host the Black Hills Red Dogs.
