Doug Plumb Named Edge Head Coach
St. John's, NL - The St. John's Edge Interim General Manager Carl English announced today that Doug Plumb has been named the club's new head coach. Steven Marcus will continue his role as Associate Head Coach while Stu Julius will take on the role of assistant. Doug Partridge will join the team as a consultant to the coaching staff.
"After an exhaustive search, we are pleased to welcome Doug as the new head coach of the Edge," said English. "He sees the game in a modern way and his work ethic is second to none. During the interview process, Doug won us over with his preparation, his passion, knowledge and dedication to the game. His familiarly with the Edge also provides stability and continuity for the franchise."
Plumb of Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, served as an assistant coach for the Edge last season (2017-18) and helped the Edge advance to the Central Division Finals. He began his NBL Canada coaching career as lead assistant coach to Kyle Julius with the London Lightning in 2016-17 and captured NBL Canada Championship title.
As a player Plumb played professionally with Zalakerámia ZTE KK of the Nemzeti Bajnokság I/A, the top league in Hungary during the 2013-14 season before moving on to Gaz Metan Medias of Romina in 2014-15. The 6-foot-4 guard was a First Team Canada West All-Star and a Second Team CIS All-Canadian after leading his squad to a conference championship and a berth to the CIS Final Eight in Ottawa. He averaged 14.9 points and 5.2 rebounds a game.
Plumb is also the Founder and Owner of Vancouver Basketball, INC which has created on-court basketball curriculum for NBA Athlete Academy Training amongst other duties as a part of this organization.
Prior to joining the Edge last season, Steven Marcus was named a graduate assistant at NC State in August of 2016. As a member of the Wolfpack staff, his duties include assisting with the coordination of filming practices and games, editing game film. Marcus spent two seasons as the Assistant Director of Basketball Operations with the Maine Red Claws, the Boston Celtics NBA D-League affiliate. Marcus was a part of the development of three Red Claws who earned NBA call ups during his two seasons with the team: Tim Frazier to the New Orleans Pelicans and Coty Clarke and Chris Babb to the Boston Celtics.
Doug Partridge was named the Technical Director of the Newfoundland Basketball Association in June and spent 23 years coaching with Memorial University, guiding the Sea-Hawks to seven Atlantic universities championships while being selected conference coach of the year eight times. Partridge was named the Canadian university women's basketball coach of the year in 2003.
Stu Julius brings more than three decades of experience to the Edge and was the head coach of the Wilfred Laurier University women's basketball team, the former athletic director and women's basketball coach at Lakehead University and served on the coaching staffs of the Mississauga Power and London Lightning of the NBL Canada.
