Dominguez Named April's Best

ATLANTA (Thursday, May 1, 2003) - Atlanta Beat forward Maribel Dominguez has been selected as the WUSA's Player of the Month for the month of April by the Professional Soccer Reporters Association. Dominguez tallied five goals and two assists to help lead Atlanta to a 2-0-1 record during the month.

The 24-year-old Dominguez lit up the WUSA in its opening month, scoring five goals and two assists for 12 points. The captain of the Mexican women's national team, Dominguez started the opening game of the 2003 season, notching a goal and an assist as the Beat defeated the New York Power 5-0 on April 5. Dominguez was named the MET-Rx Player of the Week for the week ending April 13 after registering her first career WUSA hat trick in a 6-0 victory over Boston on April 12. Her seven points tallied in that match tied the WUSA record for points in a single game. Dominguez' rounded out the month with her fifth goal of the season in a 1-1 draw with Washington on April 26. Dominguez was also responsible for drawing a penalty kick during that match.

With five goals and two assists for 12 points during April, Dominguez recorded the best point and goal total ever in the month of April.

Dominguez, who captured 55 points in the voting, outdistanced Washington's Siri Mullinix (14 pts.), Boston's Maren Meinert (13 pts.), San Diego's Shannon MacMillan (4 pts.) and Washington's Jacqui Little (1 pt.). The WUSA's Player of the Month is selected at the end every month throughout the regular season by a panel of journalists from the Professional Soccer Reporters Association.
