Moncton holds off Halifax down the stretch to tie the series at two games apiece. Moncton once again shot a poor percentage from behind the arc at the Scotiabank Centre (29.2%). However, Magic players were more aggressive at getting to the basket, drawing fouls, and knocking down their free-throws (82.9%). After a disappointing outcome in Game 3 the Moncton Magic answer back, defeating the Halifax Hurricanes, 94-89.
How to guard Moncton's Trey Kell? That question is still unanswered. Trey Kell recorded a game-high 24 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 2 steals. Taking full advantage of a late game height mismatch over Clinkscales in the post, Kell drew the foul and calmly knocked down two clutch free-throws to put Moncton up three with 24 seconds remaining in the fourth. Marcus Lewis added 12 points, including a lock down defensive effort on Mike Poole to force a backcourt violation. The following offensive position, Lewis put the Magic up five, finishing an easy layup with 7.7 seconds left in the game when Halifax elected not to foul, causing a defensive breakdown.
Other notable performances, Corey Allmond finished with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Denzell Taylor finished with a solid double-double performance of 11 points and 10 rebounds. While Freddie McSwain Jr. added 9 points and 8 rebounds.
For the Halifax Hurricanes Terry Thomas struggled with his shooting stroke, going 5-19 from the field and 0-7 from downtown. That being said, the Halifax phenom still led the way with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. Joel Kindred played well off the bench with 13 points and 6 rebounds. Malcom Duvivier received his first significant role off the bench minutes wise, finishing with 13 points. While starters Mike Poole (10 points, 10 rebounds and 2 steals) and Chadrack Lufile (10 points and 5 rebounds) both contributed with ten.
The best of seven Atlantic Division Final between the Moncton Magic and Halifax Hurricanes is now tied 2-2 heading back to Moncton. Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday May 1st, 7pm at the Avenir Centre. The Magic are eager to return home to play in front of their incredibly supportive fan base.
