Road Warrior Mentality Continues For 'DOGS, Winning Last Five!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Bozeman ICEDOGS have once again completed a four game in four days sweep, the third on the season. Early this season, the Boys from Bozeman completed back-to-back four game sweeps, starting in Alaska with two wins over the Wasilla Spirit and a duo of victories over the Fairbanks Ice Dogs. The next weekend, the ICEDOGS were declared the winners of the North American Hockey League's Showcase, after four more wins in four nights.

Their third four game sweep came this past weekend when the ‘DOGS headed east for some cross division match-ups with the Central Division's top teams. After a long trip to "home base" in Alexandria, Minnesota on Tuesday, the ICEDOGS headed south on Wednesday to start play against the Southern Minnesota Express. The Boys from Bozeman dominated the Express and shut down the league's highest scoring offense, cruising to a 7-1 win.

A familiar face to Southern Minnesota, former Express player, now ICEDOG, Quinn Ellingson haunted his old team in the opening minutes of the game putting the ‘DOGS on top. Ten different ICEDOGS had a point in the game, with Jason Krispel and Chris McKelvie leading the way with a goal and two assists. McKelvie left the game in the second period with a concussion, and missed the remainder of the weekend. Josh Heidinger and Adam Krefski each tallied a goal and an assist, and Marc Howe and Brett Nylander added goals.

On Thursday night, Jason Krispel scored 17 seconds into the game against the Bobcats, and Mike Schumacher built on the lead later in the period. Heidinger made it 3-0 before Bismarck found the board in the second period and rallied a charge but Krispel put in his second goal of the game and Brett Nylander added his second of the weekend to secure the victory 5-4.

On Friday, the ICEDOGS had the chance to rest on their first day without travel, playing the Minnesota Blizzard in Alexandria. The ‘DOGS shutout the Blizzard behind Mike Jarboe, who picked up his first shutout of the season. Brett Nylander, playing forward, led the way with two goals, with Heidinger and Schumacher adding the other two goals. Heids continued his scoring streak with two more points, and moved into first place in the NAHL Scoring.

With the sweep in sight, the ICEDOGS came out firing Saturday night in Bismarck, and held together for the 6-3 victory. The first period resembled the scene on Thursday night, with the ICEDOGS scoring early and often. Jason Krispel scored three minutes into the game and Josh Heidinger added two goals in the first period for 3-1 lead. Kyle Bailey tallied a power play goal in the second, and Krispel scored his second of the game in the third period. Mike Schumacher added an empty net goal to finish the game.

The ICEDOGS special teams went 8 for 26 (30%) on the power play, holding the top spot at 25.82% on the season. The penalty kill scored two shorthanded goals to make their season total 15.

Spotlight On #18 Kyle Bailey

Q: Tell us a little about your playing background. A: I started playing at age three. My dad used to play so he got me started. I played for the Alaska All- Stars since I was a mite, all the way until I came out here. It was fun playing with Bennett and Graham, and I remember growing up on the ponds in Alaska with Graham everyday after school.

Q: What is your favorite playing career memory so far? A: When I was a peewee, my team headed to Germany to play in an international tournament. It was fun to travel by train around the country and it also helped that my team went undefeated over there.

Q: How do you prepare for a game? A: I wake-up and eat a small breakfast before the morning skate. After pre-game, I go to Grandma's for a big breakfast or to Main Street Overeasy with a bunch of the guys. If it is a school day, I head to class or else I take a nap. Around three I get a pre-game meal in, then head to the rink, check my sticks and just start to focus on the game.

Q: What are your plans after you are done playing Juniors? A: I want to play Division I hockey in the CCHA or the WCHA. I think I want to major in Business to either take over my dad's business or start one of my own.

Q: What do you like best about Bozeman? A: The scenery reminds me of home. It is a lot like being in Alaska, the mountains, the small town environment, and the friendliness of the people. Our team is great, we really get along well and we are playing real well. The fans here are the best in the league and our booster club is always there, even on the road, in case we need something. It is just a great set-up for a team.
