Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba - The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings are pleased to announce that $539 was raised for Teens Against Drinking, Drugs and Driving during Thursday night's annual CKLQ Sportsman's Dinner in the Keystone Centre's UCT Pavillion.
The proceeds were generated from tips received from Thursday night's coat check, coordinated by the students from Vincent Massey High School.
Thursday's dinner featured comedian Big Daddy Tazz, Matt Falk and Hockey Hall of Famer Lanny McDonald.
In addition to providing a lot of laughs, the event featured a Celebrity Sports Auction. Among the top items that were sold - a Jonathan Toews autographed Chicago Blackhawks jersey ($1,150 to Mainline Motors of Virden), as well as a Lanny McDonald autographed Calgary Flames Retro Jersey and an Alex Ovechkin autographed jersey from the Washington Capitals.
As well, Total Farm Supply of Brandon won free use of a private suite at a Winnipeg Goldeyes game at Canwest Global Park this summer in addition to a mens Bulova watch from McCallum Jewellers in the Shoppers Mall.
The Sportsman's Dinner is an annual event to raise money for the hockey club's Scholarship Fund. The WHL understands the importance of setting long term goals from an economic standpoint. That is why the WHL is the leading provider of scholarships in North America.
On the ice, the Wheat Kings will be putting a 6-game winning streak on the line Friday night when they play host to the Central Division leading Kootenay Ice at Westman Place.
Tickets to Friday's game are on sale now at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
