
Difference Makers To Be Honoured

WINNIPEG, MB - The Never Alone Foundation will honour individuals and organizations that have made a difference in the fight against cancer at the third annual NEVER ALONE LUNCHEON, scheduled for Tuesday, April 15 at Canad Inns Polo Park.
The Never Alone Difference Maker Awards will be presented at this year's luncheon, which will feature Montreal Alouettes quarterback Anthony Calvillo as the headline speaker. Calvillo will speak on the importance of support during difficult times and how cancer has a profound effect on family as well as the patient.
Difference Maker Award winners will be announced in three categories including individual, group and corporation. This year's winners include Tower Engineering Group (corporate), the University of Manitoba's Mini University Leaders program (community) and Todd Longley of the City Cats /Urban Angling Partnership Fishing Derby (individual).
The Todd Davison Scholarship will be presented at the same time to recognize a high school athlete who has risen above personal challenges while displaying leadership and team skills. This year's recipient is Mark Grondin.
The Never Alone Foundation was launched in February of 2005 during the CFL Coach of the Year Award luncheon in Winnipeg.
CancerCare Manitoba is the main beneficiary of the Never Alone Foundation, which was conceived of by Winnipeg Blue Bombers President and CEO Lyle Bauer. Bauer was inspired to assist cancer sufferers and their families as a result of his own experience with the disease after being diagnosed with throat cancer in late-2004.
To date, the Never Alone Foundation has raised more than $250,000 for the fight against cancer. That includes the sale of more than 10,000 Never Alone wristbands at various locations throughout Manitoba including Canada Safeway stores, Canad Inns hotels and Ticketmaster.
